l want tips on how to attain fuel economy while using air conditioner, the best settings, whether to keep fan slow helps in less fuel economy? when should l start air conditioner? what is the compressor is size of a a/c in a wagonr???

Pls mention evrything you know about car air conditioner and their maintenance.

AC does not affect the engine adversely.
however there is more fuel consumption as long as the AC runs.
you may switch off the AC, once the car temperature goes down.
switch it on only after 3 minutes. or when you feel it so.
you may save some fuel.

The whole sorry fact is that if one uses an air conditioner fuel economy suffers. Just imagine that you are towing a trailer; the heavier the trailer, the harder it is to pull. The same applies with air-conditioning. The more you turn it up, the harder the motor works. Their is no such thing as a free dinner. Stay cool, use fuel! Waggons have more interior space and therefore take more too cool, especially if they have a dark coloured turret, that heats them up more.

basically, fan speed does not have any effect on fuel efficiency..
only the power available to compressor & the amount of coolness (i.e, temp drop ) required fixes fuel efficency.
so the best setting for AC is :-

1.switch on AC,when u r driving in 3rd gear ( or atleast in 2nd gear in town).

2. fix the thermostat level to optimum i.e the nob of blue colour to max in begning & then in middle when cabin is cooled.

3. never put AC on while switching on the car.

4.if car was placed under sun for long time, then open the window allow the fresh air to come in for 2 to 4 mins then only switch in the AC..

My experiece is: if u have AC ON while driving in gear (less than top gear), then the fuel efficiency will fall. While u r crusing on 3rd gear, if u switch off AC fuel efficiency will improve. While on rest of the gears, u cannot help if u need AC cooling. If u do not mind the efficiency & continue to rip on lower gears while the AC is ON, the life of the engine is tend to fall as u r abusing the engine. If u understand the fact that, the engine power is distributed for movement & AC, maintain a balance in the distribution, it will give u the optimum life to ur engine.
