Maruti is basically an indian based company but have their own designs and some copied from the the suzuki models, Alto, Jimny and Carry. The research is done by Suzuki though, the company being in India uses Suzuki is research to make their own affordable cars.

Maruti started off as a joint venture between the Indian GOvernment and Suzuki Motor of Japan. It is now majority owned by Suzuki; with the govt. getting out its ''core competencies''.

Marutis are Indian cars and are sold only in india and neighbouring divisions. It is now joint with Suzuki to release the Suzuki cars in India. We have some of them, such as Maruti 800, Maruti Alto, Wagon R etc. these are all Indian models.

maruti started as an auto company in 1984.initially it was to form a JV with Volkswagen to maufacture its cars in India. but Volkswagen pulled out of the JV for some reason.later Suzuki formed a JV with Maruti n brought small,efficient cars in Indian market which were an instant hit with consumers.
Today,Maruti has almost 50%market share in India.it sells around 1million cars in India every year.
It also exports cars to Europe n Americas,which r sold under Suzuki brand in these markets.
Next time u see any Suzuki on road u know where n who actually manufactures it.
