What differences are there among the Alto LXi made in different years [from may be year 2000 till the current Alto LXi model] ? Would appreciate if you can state bigger differences and even minute differences such as looks, interior, lights, AC, engine valves etc etc….
And any check list to look for ?

when buying used. u walk a round it looking for dents & discolor u check the tires for uneven wear u look under it for wet spots u check the tail pipe for black find any dont get it.. then u open hood check all the fluids any low dont get it u look at motor any wet spots dont get it. then u crank it & listen to how well it starts & if any ticking or knocking. u then check all the buttons & switches..then u drive it 30 minutes checking take off & breaking how it steers if u have any questions dont get it

Best take a mechanic along & let him take a complete look along-with a test drive.There r only small cosmetic changes from 2000, which hardly matter.What matters more is the engine condition & the genuine kms it has done.The engine has a life of about 3lakh kms unless rude handling has caused an engine overhaul.The later the model, the more price u will have to pay.Also the owner, if it is a doctor, the price is more than a businessman owned car.White colour has a more resale than other colours.White is easily repairable & cheaper than metallic colours.
Also, more cars like Nano is shortly coming into the market, so whatever u buy now will depreciate more.So best buy the cheapest in the 2000, 01 models to ensure u lose the least when u change for a Nano or other car.Best wishes,

there are new new models inside the car,not outside

Maruti makes many changes in the Alto every yr like interior dashboard, digital odometer, fabric..in exterior the body remains same only the design of lights, suzuki logo, have changed.
First drive the car see that its a smooth ride, the engine does not make any cranky noise ( if makes means the engine has problem) , check for the alingment. All this is basic ......Next check the condition of the vehicle based on it decide the price

There is a national rating of cars by a very authentic survey done by J.D.Powers & Associates, in India. These people publish it in the car magazine. most probably. the ''auto car'' or so. search for it. There is everything about all models in India .. wich models r current.. the older models' ratings u can find in older issues of the magazines.evry year & month etc..
l have personally done such survey works.. met hundreds of people with different models of cars. l am in survey work. we submit it to the survey co. which sends it to JDPowers which also informs the car cos. so they can improve on it. wers publishes the resuts.
The ratings r compartmentalized as :
1. looks exteriror
2. looks interiors
3. Space all sorts of
4. A.c
5. transmission & engine
6. safety
8. driving dynamics
9. sound etc. of audio etc.
10.Comfort
11. maintenance
12. tyres
13. Seat quality & performance
14. Controls quality & performance
15. Overall
All these ratings r points from 1 to 10 wherein 1 is worst & 10 is excellent. the users rate it as 1out of ten or 2 out of ten or 3 or ..upto 10 out of ten. whatever. 5 means average. Below five is bad & above is better.
Then is the image ratings of the model, co. & the dealer as for recommending to others & buying by self.
You may try on these things. there r details in every point. 6 to 10 sub-questions in each issue. for example. space of glove box, positining, overhed box, bottle holder, front or beind, leg space, headroom, dicky, central console. on the left of driver.. a box to hold small things. the overall.space ratings.. usefulness of each of them, ease of operating, clsing, opening, etc. etc.. every section has detailed small small points.. all each small point is rated. & then the oeverall of that particular section. say in this example.. th space section. is rated overall.. same for all sections & sub-small points.
And then there is in each section & point, querries about what can be done.. what user expects..
In all, there r about a hundred small points. May be if u call me on mobile l can tell you. mail me if u wish .. & l will give u my number.
Then there is the overall rating of the car .. x out of 10.
No dealer will tell u all this on his own & he will aslo not tell u about survey cos. as he wants to sell his goods claiming 100% quality etc. At the most he will (rarely) show u a car magazine & show what he 'wants to' show from it..
Next, about performance, if it is second hand car, visit ur trusted mechanic.
Or, also u can refer to Used cars business sections of Mahaindra , tata, maruti, hyundai etc. most cos. run such businesses. which can be more trustworthy . as of today. at least u r assured of officialness of things & some originality, to much extent. & good sellers.
If u want alto, l do not remember the model.. but three months back oe guy said.. that the outside rear view mirror was fixed, & cant swivel it or slant it etc. The entering & coming out of the driver is seat is like moving in & out of a cave . have to search for the door. The Ac provided has lots of pressure on the engine. Engine dabtaa hai bahut . Ac se, mileage achha hai. baaki baatein thi but l do not remeber. l do many surveys. from condoms to politics, Petroleum products to hindi films, internet providers/users to lifestyle of different layers of people.
