Thats not possible for petrol or diesel Maruti yet, but the research is going on by some companies regarding backing up the engin with battry powered motors using the current from the alternater.

l think misprint of 26km/lit which is also on the very high side.It is about 20 on highway without putting the ac on.

Probably, u would have read that the winner of the Alto mileage competition in Bhubaneshwar achieved 46 kmpl. It has been common to see these ALTO mileage competitions achieving 30-35 kmpl (the Delhi round saw an ALTO with 33 kmpl, l think). This is possible when the engine is tuned perfectly & the driver drives the car optimally using the least amount of braking. Maruti usually publishes the phone numbers of the winners the next day in the local paper. You could call them & ask them yourself.
